How do I get started with GoodBooks Life?

+

Getting started is easy! Download the app from the iOS App Store, create your account with your name and a profile photo, and set up your profile. Then invite your partner by sharing your unique invite code from the Partner screen.

Once your partner joins, you'll be connected and can start creating shared activities together. The app will guide you through the setup with helpful prompts along the way.

How do I invite my partner?

+

After creating your account, go to the Partner screen (or Settings → Link Partner) and tap "Invite Partner." You can share your unique invite code via text, email, or any messaging app.

When your partner downloads the app, creates their account, and enters your invite code, you'll automatically be connected. You'll both receive a notification and can start collaborating right away. You can see your connection status — a green "Partnered" badge — in the navigation bar.

Can I use GoodBooks Life without a partner?

+

Absolutely! GoodBooks Life works perfectly as a personal productivity tool. You can create activities, track points, set up rewards, and use all the connection features solo.

No partner? No problem — you'll see a "Solo" badge in the app, and you can invite a partner at any time by generating an invite code from Settings.

Is GoodBooks Life designed for FIFO or remote workers?

+

Yes — GoodBooks Life was built specifically with FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) workers and their partners in mind, but it's perfect for anyone who spends time apart. Whether your partner is away for work, you're in different cities, or you just want a better way to share household responsibilities, the app keeps you in sync.

Daily check-ins, shared activities, and real-time notifications mean you can stay emotionally connected and share the load — no matter the distance.

Can I use GoodBooks Life for long-distance relationships?

+

Absolutely! GoodBooks Life is designed to work seamlessly across time zones. You can see what your partner is working on in real-time, send appreciation messages, leave notes on activities, and check in with how you're feeling each day — no matter where you are.

Many long-distance couples use GoodBooks Life to maintain shared goals, stay emotionally connected, and celebrate wins together even when apart.

How do I create and assign activities?

+

Tap the "+" button on the Activities tab to create a new activity. You can:

  • Type a title — smart suggestions will appear as you type (from 50+ templates and your recent history)
  • Assign it to yourself, your partner, or both
  • Set a point value (1–5 points)
  • Add a due date if needed
  • Set it as recurring (daily, weekly, or monthly)
  • Include notes or additional context

Once created, the activity appears in your shared list and your partner is notified immediately.

How do recurring activities work?

+

When creating an activity, you can mark it as recurring and choose how often it repeats — daily, weekly (on specific days), or monthly. You can also set an optional end date.

The app automatically generates upcoming instances for the next 3 months, so they show up in your calendar and activity list right on schedule. Recurring activities display a 🔁 icon so you can tell them apart at a glance. This is perfect for regular chores like "Take out the rubbish" or "Pay the bills."

How does the points system work?

+

When you create an activity, you assign it a point value (1–5 points) based on its effort or importance. When someone completes the activity, they earn those points.

You can track points individually (yours vs. your partner's) and use them to redeem rewards you've set up together — like choosing the next movie, a breakfast in bed, or planning a date night. Points totals are shown on the home screen so you always know the score!

Can I attach photos to activities?

+

Yes! When completing an activity, you can attach up to 3 photos as proof or as a memory. This is a fun way to show your partner you've done the job — whether it's a photo of the freshly mowed lawn or the finished dinner.

Photos are automatically compressed for fast uploads and are visible to your partner in the activity detail. You can also attach photos to rewards for a personal touch.

What are rewards and how do I set them up?

+

Rewards are fun incentives you create together! Go to the Rewards tab and tap "Add Reward." Give it a name (like "Choose the Movie," "Breakfast in Bed," or "Weekend Adventure"), set a point cost (10–100 points), and optionally attach a photo.

Once someone earns enough points, they can redeem the reward. You'll both get a notification, and the redemption appears in your shared history. We have 90+ reward templates to inspire you.

What are Surprise Rewards?

+

Surprise Rewards add a romantic twist! When creating a reward, you can mark it as a "surprise" — it shows as 🎁💋 in the list, and the description stays hidden until the reward is redeemed.

This is perfect for keeping romantic gestures a mystery until your partner earns enough points to unlock them. The reveal happens at the moment of redemption, making it a genuinely exciting moment.

How does the Calendar work?

+

The Calendar tab gives you a monthly view of all your activities. Days with activities show coloured dots so you can see at a glance what's coming up, what's overdue, and how busy each week looks.

Tap any date to see the activities scheduled for that day. Recurring activities appear automatically on their scheduled days, making it easy to stay on top of your shared routine.

What are Key Dates?

+

Key Dates let you save and track important dates in your relationship — anniversaries, birthdays, the day you met, upcoming trips, or anything else that matters to you both.

They appear in the Calendar and on your home screen as reminders, so you never forget a meaningful date. A thoughtful touch for keeping those special moments front of mind.

What are Notes and how do I use them?

+

The Notes section (sometimes called Swing Notes) lets you and your partner jot down thoughts, reminders, shopping lists, or anything you want to share — without it being a formal activity.

Think of it as your shared notepad. Both partners can view, create, and edit notes, and you'll be notified when a new note is added. Great for capturing those "don't forget to..." moments.

How do daily check-ins work?

+

Each day, you can tap the check-in prompt on your home screen and select an emoji that reflects how you're feeling — from 😊 (great) through to 😰 (stressed). You can also add a short note to give your partner more context.

Your partner can see your daily status and note in real-time, and vice versa. It's a quick, low-effort way to stay emotionally in tune even when you're apart. Check-ins reset each day, so it becomes a healthy daily habit.

What are check-in streaks?

+

Every time you complete a daily check-in, you build your streak. The 🔥 flame icon shows how many consecutive days you've checked in, and your streak count is displayed on the home screen.

Streaks are a fun motivator to build the daily check-in habit. You can also unlock achievements for hitting 7, 14, and 30+ day streak milestones. Miss a day and your streak resets — so it's worth checking in!

How do I send appreciation or gratitude to my partner?

+

The "Send Love" section on the home screen lets you send a quick one-tap appreciation message — "Thanks! 💕", "You're Amazing! ⭐", or "Miss You 🥰" — with no typing required.

You can also tap the ❤️ heart button on any activity completed by your partner to send them specific appreciation for that task. Your partner gets a notification, and the gesture shows up in their activity feed. Small moments that add up to feeling really cared for.

What are Achievements and how do I unlock them?

+

Achievements are badges you unlock by hitting milestones in the app. There are 20+ achievements across categories like:

  • Check-in streaks: 7 days, 14 days, 30+ days 🔥
  • Activities completed: 10, 50, 100, 250
  • Points earned: 100, 500, 1,000+
  • Partnership milestones and special goals

Achievements unlock automatically when you hit the threshold. You'll get a notification and a confetti celebration when a new badge is unlocked! View all your progress in the Achievements screen.

What is the Weekly Recap?

+

Each week, GoodBooks Life automatically generates a relationship recap showing highlights from your week together. It includes:

  • Total activities completed by each partner
  • Points earned during the week
  • Your dominant mood trends from daily check-ins
  • Check-in streaks and consistency
  • Rewards redeemed and appreciation messages sent

It's a beautiful summary of how you've shown up for each other. Access it from the home screen recap card.

What is the Connection Score?

+

The Connection Score is a 0–100 score on your home screen that gives you a daily snapshot of how connected you and your partner have been lately. It's designed to be encouraging, not judgmental — a quiet week doesn't tank the number.

The score is calculated from five pillars, each contributing up to 20 points:

  • Check-in consistency — how regularly you're both checking in each day over the past week
  • Mood health — the overall emotional tone of your check-ins (Great and Good moods contribute more than Stressed or Tough)
  • Activity engagement — the percentage of this week's activities you've completed together
  • Gratitude — how many appreciation messages you've sent each other in the past 7 days
  • Streak momentum — the length of your current check-in streak, capped at 14 days for full points

The score always has a minimum of 30 — because every couple has off weeks. The label beside the score gives you a warm read on where you're at:

  • 85–100: Thriving together 💫
  • 65–84: Connected & growing 🌱
  • 45–64: Staying in touch 👋
  • 30–44: Could use some attention 💙

The score refreshes automatically when you pull to refresh the home screen. All five pillars use data already loaded by the app — no extra loading required.

How do push notifications work?

+

GoodBooks Life sends push notifications to keep you in the loop when things happen in real-time — like when your partner completes an activity, sends you appreciation, redeems a reward, or checks in for the day.

You can manage which notifications you receive in the app's Settings → Notifications section. Make sure you've also allowed notifications for GoodBooks Life in your iPhone's Settings app.

Is my data private and secure?

+

Absolutely. Your privacy is our priority. All data is encrypted and securely stored in the cloud. Only you and your partner can see your shared activities, check-ins, rewards, photos, and notes. We never share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Partners connect via unique invite codes — no one can see your data without an explicit invitation. For full details, check out our Privacy Policy.

What devices and iOS version does GoodBooks Life require?

+

GoodBooks Life requires iOS 18.0 or later and is available for iPhone. Make sure your device is updated to at least iOS 18 before downloading from the App Store.

The app is also fully optimised for iOS 26, taking advantage of the new Liquid Glass design system — navigation bars, tab bar, and controls all adopt the modern translucent material look automatically. The app is optimised for all current iPhone sizes and supports Dark Mode for comfortable use day or night.

Is GoodBooks Life free?

+

Yes! GoodBooks Life is completely free to download and use. All core features — shared activities, points, rewards, daily check-ins, achievements, photos, recurring tasks, calendar, notes, and weekly recaps — are available at no cost.

No subscriptions. No ads. Just better life balance. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core experience will always remain free.

How do I turn on or customise notifications?

+

Go to the Settings menu → Notifications to customise which alerts you receive. You can control notifications for:

  • When your partner completes an activity
  • When an activity is assigned to you
  • When a reward is redeemed
  • Appreciation messages from your partner
  • Achievement unlocks
  • Daily check-in reminders

Make sure you've also enabled notifications for GoodBooks Life in your iPhone's Settings app for push notifications to work.

Can I disconnect from my partner?

+

Yes. If you need to disconnect, go to Settings → Connection Settings. You can disconnect from your current partner at any time.

When you disconnect, both users retain their individual activity history and achievements, but shared activities and rewards will no longer sync. You can reconnect with the same partner or invite a new one later using a new invite code.

What happens if I delete my account?

+

If you delete your account, all your personal data — including activities, photos, check-ins, achievements, and notes — will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Your partner will be notified of the disconnection.

This action cannot be undone, so please be certain before proceeding. If you just need a break, you can simply stop using the app without deleting your account.

How do I manage photos and storage?

+

GoodBooks Life automatically compresses photos when you upload them to keep file sizes small and uploads fast. Photos attached to activities and rewards are stored securely in the cloud and are accessible to both partners.

When you delete an activity or reward, its associated photos are automatically cleaned up from storage too. You can attach up to 3 photos per activity and photos to rewards and your profile.
