When you use GoodBooks Life, we collect information that you voluntarily provide, including:
- Account Information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account
- Profile Information: Display name provided at account setup or updated later in Settings
- Activity Data: Shared activities, task names, point values, notes, comments, and completion records you create within the app
- Reward Data: Reward names, point costs, and redemption history
- Daily Check-In Data: Your daily mood selection (emoji ranging from Great to Stressed) and any optional text note you choose to add. This is emotional/wellbeing data and is treated with additional care — it is only ever shared with your connected partner
- Photos: Photos you attach to activities or rewards (up to 3 per activity). Photos are accessed from your device's camera or photo library only when you choose to attach them. They are automatically compressed and stored in the cloud
- Appreciation Reactions: Heart reactions you send to your partner's completed activities
- Communication Data: Messages you send through our support channels
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
We automatically collect certain information about your device and how you use the app:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
- Push Notification Token: A device-specific token issued by Apple (APNs) used to deliver push notifications to your device. This token is stored on our servers and shared with Apple solely for the purpose of delivering notifications
- Usage Data: Features used, actions taken, timestamps, and crash reports
- Derived Metrics: The Connection Score (a 0–100 indicator calculated from your check-in consistency, mood trends, activity engagement, appreciation sent, and streak length) is computed from your activity and stored as part of your account data
- Streak and Achievement Data: Your check-in streak count and unlocked achievement badges, which are tracked automatically as you use the app
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the GoodBooks Life service
- Sync activities, check-ins, photos, reactions, and rewards between you and your connected partner in real time
- Calculate and display your Connection Score based on your engagement, mood trends, and streaks
- Send push notifications via Apple's Push Notification Service (APNs) about activity completions, appreciation, reward redemptions, check-ins, achievement unlocks, and reminders
- Store and serve photos you attach to activities, rewards, and your profile
- Track streak milestones and unlock achievements as you reach thresholds
- Improve app functionality and user experience
- Respond to your support requests and communications
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Information Sharing
3.1 With Your Partner
When you connect with a partner in GoodBooks Life, the following information is shared between your accounts:
- Profile information
- Shared activities, notes, and comments
- Photos attached to activities and rewards
- Points earned and rewards created or redeemed
- Activity completion status and history
- Daily check-in mood emoji and any note you attach to it
- Appreciation reactions sent or received
- Your Connection Score and the factors that contribute to it
- Achievement badges unlocked and streak count
Your daily check-in mood and notes represent emotional/wellbeing data. By using the check-in feature, you consent to this information being visible to your connected partner. You choose what to share in each check-in note — or you can leave the note blank.
3.2 With Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information and we never share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We may share information with:
- Cloud Infrastructure: We use cloud hosting services to store your account data, activity records, check-ins, and photos securely. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs): Your device push token is shared with Apple solely to deliver push notifications to your iPhone. Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy
- Crash Reporting and Analytics: We may use third-party tools to collect anonymised crash reports and aggregate usage analytics to improve app stability and performance. These services do not receive data that identifies you personally
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and safety
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before any such transfer and give you the opportunity to delete your account
4. Device Permissions
GoodBooks Life requests access to the following device features. All permissions are optional unless noted, and you can manage them at any time in your iPhone's Settings app:
- Camera and Photo Library: Required to attach photos to activities and rewards, and to set your profile photo. The app only accesses your camera or library when you actively choose to attach a photo — we do not access your photos in the background
- Push Notifications: Used to alert you when your partner completes an activity, sends appreciation, redeems a reward, checks in for the day, or when you unlock an achievement. You can customise which notifications you receive in Settings → Notifications
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- Encryption for all data in transit using TLS
- Encrypted storage of all personal data, including photos, check-ins, and account records
- Photos are automatically compressed before upload; originals are not retained on our servers beyond what you upload
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Access controls limiting employee access to personal data
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time through the app settings.
Upon account deletion:
- Your account and all associated data — including activities, photos, daily check-ins, mood records, achievements, notes, and Connection Score history — will be permanently deleted within 30 days
- Your push notification token will be deregistered immediately
- Your partner will be notified of the disconnection
- Activity records that were shared with your partner (e.g. tasks they created that reference your completion) may be retained in your partner's account as part of their data history
7. Your Rights
Under Australian privacy law (including the Privacy Act 1988), you have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal information
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format

- Send appreciation reactions to your partner's completed activities
- Complete daily check-ins with an emoji mood and optional note
- View your Connection Score, a daily indicator of how engaged you've both been
- Track check-in streaks and unlock achievement badges
- Leave notes and comments on activities
- Review weekly stats and shared activity history

3. Account Registration
3.1 Account Creation
To use GoodBooks Life, you must create an account by providing accurate and complete information. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- All activities that occur under your account

GoodBooks Life is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future:
- We will provide advance notice of pricing changes
- All fees will be charged in Australian Dollars (AUD) unless otherwise stated
- Subscriptions will auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date
- Refunds may be available in accordance with Apple App Store policies
7. Partner Connections
When you connect with a partner through GoodBooks Life:
- You consent to sharing activity data, points, rewards, photos, daily check-in moods, appreciation reactions, achievements, streak counts, and your Connection Score with them in real time
- Both users must consent to the connection before any data is shared
- Daily check-in notes are personal — you choose how much detail to include in each note, or you can leave the note blank
- Either user may disconnect at any time through the app
- You are responsible for choosing whom to connect with
- We are not responsible for disputes between connected partners
8. Termination
8.1 By You
You may terminate your account at any time through the app settings. Upon termination, your access to the service will cease immediately, and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
8.2 By Us
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:
- You violate these Terms of Service
- You engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
- Your account has been inactive for an extended period
- We are required to do so by law

13. Apple App Store Terms
If you download GoodBooks Life from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply:
- These Terms are between you and GoodBooks Life, not Apple
- Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance
- Apple is not responsible for any product warranty claims
- In the event of any failure to conform to applicable warranties, you may notify Apple for a refund, and Apple will have no other warranty obligation
- Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property infringement
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms
14. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:

- Update the "Last Updated" date
- Notify you through the app or via email
Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
